REPTONIANS OFFERED SCHOLARSHIPS TO USA UNIVERSITIES
Repton School is delighted to announce that six pupils have secured offers to study at universities in the United States.
After a rigorous interview process involving auditions, interviews and academic transcripts, Harry S (U6N) has been awarded a prestigious music scholarship to Berklee College of Music, the largest independent college of contemporary music in the world.
Three pupils have been offered football scholarships including Eno N (U6P) to Notre Dame, Tom W (U6P) to Trinity University in San Antonio and Jerry W to Eastern Florida. It is fantastic to see Repton’s football programme developing pupils’ talents to such a high standard, allowing them the opportunity to further their academic and sporting endeavours across the pond.
Ellie B (U6G) will join Ivy League Yale University and Sian E (U6M) heads for Delaware, both with field hockey scholarships. Erin Franklin (G’19) joined Wagner College in New York as a hockey scholar in February this year. They form part of a growing cohort of Old Reptonians in the US who have received field hockey scholarships to prestigious universities including Harvard and Stanford.
The prevalence of Reptonians opting to study in the USA matches a national trend with rising numbers of UK-based pupils crossing the Atlantic, due to generous scholarship programmes as well as the outstanding facilities. Ellie Mitchell went from Repton to Ivy League university Brown in 2019 and says: "The facilities at Brown are breath taking. I train in an Olympic sized swimming pool; we have two lifting gyms, hot tubs, ice baths and recovery rooms with each team allocated their own team of physiotherapists. There is also a full-sized indoor athletic track, multiple football and hockey pitches and an ice hockey rink".
Repton provides expert advice to those considering furthering their education in the USA. We guide each pupil through the application process and provide comprehensive preparation with support offered via subject specialists for the SAT and ACT examinations.
Repton’s Head of Higher Education and Careers, Mr Jack Swanston, commented: “We are extremely proud of our pupils who have been offered sought-after scholarships at US Universities. They have managed the added pressure of the pandemic, coupled with an increasingly competitive graduate market with enormous maturity. It is evidence of the instilled resilience and unbounded aspirations of Reptonians that we continue to see successful applications and we hope this will inspire similar ambitions from our pupils in the coming years.”
At the beginning of the year, Repton pupils benefitted from an online event aimed at those pursuing a university place overseas, with speakers joining us from universities all over the world to offer advice, including ORs who are successfully studying overseas.
