REPTON MUSIC HITS HIGH NOTE WITH NEW APPOINTMENT

Repton School is delighted to announce the appointment of Simon Desbruslais as Assistant Director of Music.  

A distinguished trumpet soloist, Simon has earned critical acclaim for his performances and recordings on the Signum, Resonus, Nimbus and Chandos labels. His career has taken him to prestigious concert halls around the world, with concerto performances in China and Brazil and appearances as a soloist with the Royal Northern Sinfonia, English Symphony Orchestra, and BBC National Orchestra of Wales. His work is frequently broadcast and he has performed live on BBC 1 Television, BBC Radio 3 & 4 and German Radio SWR2 to millions of viewers and listeners worldwide.  

Simon has worked extensively with composers to commission and champion new music, spanning from chamber works to full-scale concertos and unique collaborations, including trumpet with choir and string quartet. 

He studied at King’s College London and the Royal College of Music, earning numerous prizes and scholarships, before completing a doctorate at Christ Church, Oxford. His academic work has been published by the Journal of the Royal Musical Association and Cambridge University Press, and he is currently completing his third book. His career in education has seen him teach at St Paul’s School for Girls International and universities, including Oxford, Hull, Bristol, Nottingham, King’s College London, and Surrey.
