REPTON APPOINTS NEW HEAD OF PERFORMANCE HOCKEY FOR SEPTEMBER 2023
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Michael Hoare as Repton’s new Head of Performance Hockey. Michael will join the School in September 2023 alongside the new Director of Hockey and previous international teammate, Adam Dixon.
Michael has a vast amount of experience as a professional Hockey player, making his international debut in 2012, he went on to become a European and Commonwealth medallist. However, it was his experience of accessing the game as a junior player that drove him to embark on a career in coaching.
As well as being a qualified PE teacher, Michael has 16 years of involvement in the sport, working across education, coaching and high-performance sport. This led him to set up The Hockey Lab, an elite hockey coaching company aiming to help individual players develop along their sporting journey. During his time here, Michael has coached numerous players to international junior team selection and achieved scholarships at leading independent schools across the UK.
With his experience in professional and grassroots hockey, coupled with his passion to give back everything he learnt and experienced through the sport to the next generation of players, Michael is uniquely placed to take Repton’s hockey programme to new heights.
Commenting on the appointment, Repton’s new Director of Hockey, Adam Dixon said, "I am delighted that Michael has joined the coaching team at both Repton School and Repton Hockey Club. Michael's vast experience as a coach and player will allow him to shape the performance environment and propel it to new levels. Having played alongside Michael for both club and country I know he will bring passion and energy to the role of Head of Performance, and I look forward to reuniting with him in a coaching capacity".
Michael says “I’m really excited to be joining both Repton School and Repton Hockey Club. Both already have a well-established hockey programme and I look forward to working with Adam to help to develop them further. Adam’s had an amazing career as a hockey player, we have shared the pitch together for years and now share the same passion to inspire junior hockey players to enjoy this great sport as much as we have.
Off the back of Repton’s continued success at National competitions in 2023, Repton firmly holds itself as the top hockey school in the UK. Repton’s Headmaster, Mr Mark Semmence, is delighted to welcome Michael to Repton’s renowned sports department, saying “Michael is an inspirational mentor to junior players, he has demonstrated not only his passion for the sport but his ability to transform players into highly successful athletes. Both Michael and Adam bring a wealth of knowledge from both their professional and coaching careers and will work together to develop a programme that maintains and propels the Schools’ current success. We look forward to welcoming them both to Repton in September.”
